Introduction to the Electrophysiology Program at Fletcher Allen
The electrophysiology program at Fletcher Allen Health Care is dedicated to clinical care, which provides the motivation for the research and training programs. The deeply held philosophy behind the Fletcher Allen electrophysiology program is that a firm grasp of the underlying principles of electrophysiology provide the foundation upon which good clinical care is built.
Both our educational programs and our research are approached from a mechanistic perspective. There is a symbiotic relationship between the two: research projects have frequently been born out of questions that arose during interactive didactic sessions and tools developed in the research lab are used extensively for teaching.
This philosophy inspired the development of an intensive two day training course called "Foundations of Electrophysiology". The course covers a large amount of material in a short time. Such a compact tour through the spectrum of EP (from ion channels to 3D electro-anatomic mapping) allows us to discuss each piece of the story in the context of all the others. To help overcome the challenges of exposure to such a large amount of material in so short a time we have provided all of the content from the course as downloadable videos so that the material can be reviewed at the viewer's leisure.
